MLB announces Holiday Inn Hotels as official hotel of MLB and the Cincinnati Reds

So, the big question not answered in this article, how much money are the Reds making in this new sponsorship deal? With moves like this, and the hopefully soon to be completed sale of the Washington Nationals, the Reds could be seeing a bit more income soon.

MLBP, MLBAM and InterContinental Hotels Group Family of Brands Reach
Agreement on 3-year Sponsorship Deal; Select Holiday Inn as Lead Brand in
    Relationship

NEW YORK, April 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Major League Baseball
Properties (MLBP), Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM), and the
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) (NYSE: IHG; London) (ADRs), owner of
    the InterContinental(R) Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza(R), Holiday Inn(R),
Holiday Inn Express(R), Staybridge Suites(R), Candlewood Suites(R) and
Hotel Indigo(TM) brands, today announced a three-year sponsorship agreement
to make Holiday Inn hotels the "Official Hotel of Major League Baseball."
This is the largest relationship in U.S. professional sports between a
league property and a member of the hotel industry.

This MLB sponsorship gives IHG, the world's largest hotel group,
exclusive category rights. In addition to being the "Official Hotel of
Major League Baseball," Holiday Inn today unveiled five new Club
sponsorship agreements with the Atlanta Braves, Chicago White Sox,
Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins.

"We are thrilled to forge this new partnership with the
InterContinental Hotels Group and name Holiday Inn the Official Hotel of
Major League Baseball," said Tim Brosnan, Executive Vice President,
Business, Major League Baseball. "This new agreement is consistent with our
strategy to partner with brands that are leaders in their respective
category and will further our goal to create innovative and powerful
platforms that will further engage consumers at both MLB ballparks and
Holiday Inn hotels across the country."

"We are excited to join these two iconic brands -- America's favorite
hotel and America's favorite pastime. Linking Holiday Inn and Major League
Baseball is a natural and logical move," said Mark Snyder, Senior Vice
President, Brand Management, Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts in the
Americas. "Research shows that large numbers of baseball fans are also
loyal Holiday Inn guests, and vice-versa. We look forward to the
possibilities of what we can accomplish together with Major League Baseball
    for our mutual fans."

According to a national study conducted by Scarborough Research, more
than 6 in 10 Holiday Inn guests (13.5 million) are self-identified MLB
fans. Additionally, MLB ballpark attendees comprise approximately one
quarter (24%) of Holiday Inn guests and account for more traffic to Holiday
Inn hotels than attendees of any other sport.

As part of the sponsorship, Major League Baseball experiences and
merchandise will be incorporated into Priority Club Rewards, the loyalty
program for guests of IHG's family of hotels, including InterContinental
Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express,
Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites and Hotel Indigo brands. Priority Club
Rewards members can earn "once-in-a-lifetime" MLB experiences including
being on-field to watch batting practice at an All-Star Game or throwing
out a ceremonial first pitch prior to a World Series game. In addition,
members will be able to gain access to MLB Authentic Collection apparel,
officially licensed MLB merchandise as well as select MLB regular season,
    All-Star Game and postseason tickets.

"Like Major League Baseball, IHG is committed to creating memorable
experiences for its most loyal customers. This sponsorship will allow us to
offer members of Priority Club Rewards unique opportunities that will be
impossible to find anywhere else within our industry," said Steve Sickel,
Senior Vice President, Multibrand and Relationship Marketing,
InterContinental Hotels Group. "It's all a part of the ways we're sharing
the joy of America's pastime and the benefits of this sponsorship with our
    guests."

As part of the agreement, Holiday Inn will make significant media
commitments to national Major League Baseball television rightsholders, as
well as to other MLB-produced programming. Holiday Inn also will be a
participating sponsor of All-Star FanFest, the interactive baseball theme
park that opens Major League Baseball All-Star Week. Holiday Inn will be
the title sponsor of a premier attraction at the five-day event, which
opens Friday, July 7 and runs through Tuesday, July 11. This year, All-Star
FanFest will take place at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in
    Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Additionally, Holiday Inn in conjunction with MLB will offer MLB fans
the chance to win the "ultimate road trip." This trip is part of a larger
strategy to engage MLB fans and Holiday Inn guests. Further details will be
    announced later in the season.

The Reds should stay at all Holiday Inn Express locations. It would make them much smarter ballplayers if they did.

Apparently they're forcing opposing teams to stay in Eastgate.

When the Cardinals come to town, I propose we all park our cars outside in the mall parking lot and just keep honking our horns to keep Albert awake all night.

I'm sure the players will learn to appreciate Holiday Inn's version of breakfast in the lobby. That stale coffee doesn't taste so bad when it's preceded by powdered sugar donut holes.

There are several... two very close to downtown (HI Express off the I-75 Mitchell Ave/Xavier exit and one in Covington). There are more in the burbs.

And that's just Holiday Inn... from the article, it looks like a whole bunch of "affiliate" hotels fall under their umbrella.

Hey, RBA - I thought you were the pitchman for the Newport Travelodge as the official hotel of the Reds
Some people play baseball. Baseball plays Jay Bruce.

Re: MLB announces Holiday Inn Hotels as official hotel of MLB and the Cincinnati Reds

What does MLB do if there isn't a Holiday Inn or IHG hotel around? Most of the visiting teams' hotels are in a city's DT or within a few miles of a ballpark.

There is a Holiday Inn in Covington but it's definitely not the Hyatt or Westin. Cleveland is a little better - they have an Express and a Crowne Plaza (used to be a Sheraton) - The Holiday Inn Lakeshore I'd stay away from (too close to the RTA and airport). What about the other MLB cities?

Of course, this could allow IHG to buy a hotel property in a MLB city downtown for the purpose of housing a team.

I don't think this agreement requires the teams to stay at a Holiday Inn or partner property.

It looks more like a marketing ploy to get MLB fans to stay at these hotels for point rewards. It may also include getting "points' for buying tickets/merchandise at the ballpark for the hotel's point cards.

I also see this as strictly a marketing agreement, much like 'the official beer of the NFL' and so on. I also doubt that the player's union would be agreeable to teams housing the players at a Holiday Inn Express or something similar.

    Marriott is heart-broken.
