Lou Brock looks almost exactly the same as he did the year he retired. Could be the fancy camera work, but the guy still looks pretty amazing.

The fascinating thing about the Cardinals is not that they have a better offense than the Reds, but that they have a more opportunistic offense--they seem to have a much better sense of when to swing the bat within a pitcher's pitching sequence. The Reds have a sense of that too, but the Cardinals seem to know "when" to swing in addition to knowing when not to swing.
“And when finally they sense that some position cannot be sustained, they do not re-examine their ideas. Instead, they simply change the subject.” Jamie Galbraith

Maybe too many Paul Wilson and Jeff Austin single-inning spectaculars have skewed my standards on "good/bad inning"

Phillips hit the ball hard but right at Rodriguez. 1-1 after 2.

Dang, Phillips absolutely ripped that one. Mulder won't get those outs all night.

Okay, when is an announcer going to say "and that is the first time in the history of MLB that an Encarnacion has flied out to an Encarnacion on a Monday night match up between two NL teams"

That's a fair assessment. Much as I hate LaRussa, his team's are exceptionally well-schooled. I've come to believe that his teams have benefitted greatly from superior advance scouting. Hard to prove, but his club's seem to be better prepared for what they're going to see each and every night.
