    How Much Influence...

...Did Castellini have on the Cardinals when he was owner?

A friend and I were talking at work today about our respective ball teams. He made a comment about how the Cardinals can't seem to play little ball right now. Funny. The Reds are playing decent little ball. Ironic that now that Castellini is now in Cinci that they are playing little ball. He leaves St Louis and they're *not* playing little ball.

How much impact does an owner have on actual on-field play? Is this situation an indication or just a coincidence?

In the case of Steinbrenner, a lot.

In the case of Castellini, in my opinion, very little.

Since his first interview, he's always reiterated that a key to his success was putting the right people in the right positions. He seems like the type of guy who knows he's better off leaving the on-field stuff to the pros.

He might not have to much influence but he does have a high authority for who goes out there and does the playing, so in a way he does.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
