    Felipe Lopez

What's up with this guy? Last year at this time he was absolutely on fire...this year, not so much...

    252/323/374 for a 697 OPS.

What's happening with him? He's my favorite player; this is starting to freak me out.
I hope it's never sunny in Philly again.

It's just a slump, nothing to be worried about yet, IMO. Just Less than ten days ago he was OPSing at .830. Two weeks ago - .875. The season is young, one little 0-for-15 streak and it will make your numbers look pretty bad. If he is still OPSing at .697 half way through June, then you may have something to be worried about, but not right now. Too early. My opinion is, his OPS will be back around the .800 area by the end of the season.

He needs a day off every now and then, and Narron has not given him that.

Well maybe Friday Phillips goes to short, Freel to 2nd and Griffey to 2B and he can get his day off. Even with Aurilia hurt we are deep in flexibility. He's young though. You have to fight through it. He had a nice hit last night and a couple hits the night before. Just a good pitcher on top of his game now last night.

History Lesson - for about 15 years we had a shortstop who never could play in April or May. For some odd reason, just after Mother's Day, when Spring Time would permiate the landcape of Porkopolis, this gentleman who tear up the remainder of year (Injuries not-withstanding).

The guy's name was Barry Larkin.

BTW - If you are worried about Lopez, and the Reds are still 19-9...you have to really like the team's chances.

If they need backup, don't forget Olmedo who is doing well in AAA and is more than adequate as a backup middle infielder.

He is not swinging the bat well at the moment. There still has to be some concern as to whether 2005 was a new level of performance or a 1 year aberration. Only time will answer that question.

Olmedo had a great winter also, hitting over .350 and making a push for the batting title in Venezuela (won by Ronny Cedeņo). Hit 8 homers, also.

Second batter in the order. He's played there before.

But you gotta like the fact that he's 10-fer-10 on the basepaths.

has anyone noticed lately that several of his throws to first base are very low or at the very least cause the first baseman to stretch a great deal...

It's funny how a scant week ago, people had annointed him the team's franchise player, and now after a bad twenty or so at bats, the hand wringing begins.

It's really best to remain level headed, for it's an incredibly long season.

This has to stop....baseball is a 162 game season...let them play, talking about what is best for the team or something like that is one thing but critiquing an individuals measly 10 games of a season is ridiculous
