One overlooked improvement for the Reds early season

Im sure this is going to sound dumb but I think that there is one thing that is really small but has vastly improved over the last few years and that is the hitting of the pitchers. Harang got a few hits last night and had the only rbi in the 1-0 victory over the Cardinals. Aroyyo has 2 bombs, Lizard had a hit in his first start, Claussen has had a few hits. I dont know if Narron has these guys taking some extra bp or if its just a pride thing but as a unit the pitchers hitting has improved greatly. This isnt going to win or lose the division but when the pitchers help themselves its a big lift for the team IMO.
I was in the ORG once, best 6 months of my life.

Re: One overlooked improvement for the Reds early season

Not overlooked by everyone..this is a pet pevee of mine.

In 2005 REDs were next to last in the NL with a pitcher OPS of .295.
    (Cubs were best with .490).
Not to mention all the missed bunts.

This year...3rd so far...with .476. Missed bunts...haven't seen that many.

Steel discussed this with me...way back and with good arguments as always, downplayed its importance.

I still believe it's more important that it may seem. Not having a ZERO at the bottom of the lineup, makes the rest of the hitters a bit better.
You are only as strong as your weakest link, so to say.

Successful teams, like Atlanta, St Louis and Houston always seem to have decent hitting pitchers (at least they can lay a bunt down).

Hopefully the REDS pitcher-hitters keep it up.
