Phillips lines out to 3rd. Kearns falls going back to 2nd and the Diamondbacks get the double play. 9-7 Reds mid 9th.

Shake it off Ears! You can't help slipping. Bad break.

Citing RBI as you've done is clear proof of that. OBP creates baserunners, and avoiding outs (read: high OBP) is the number one fundamental way to increase run production.

    Look at the chart again:

When Scott Hatteberg is in the lineup, the 5th slot is the best slot in the lineup for him given his skill set of high OBP and a low SLG. His SLG is far too low to bat him third, and his OBP is far too high to bat him eighth. His lack of speed creates an interesting debate of whether or not Hatteberg would benefit us leading off or batting second, but so long as Ryan Freel is playing then Freel belongs in the leadoff slot. Additionally, his exact production does make it a bit inefficient to bat him 2nd due to the discrepancy of plate appearances over the course of the season between leadoff/second and the fifth spot in the lineup.

That leaves the fifth hole, and Scott Hatteberg fits appropriately in the fifth hole.
So when the Marlins won their last WS, Pierre and Castillo hitting 1st and 2nd was wrong and Castillo should have hit 5th?
