It was not intended to be cruel at all, it's a long time known fact that Joe was the champion beer drinker on the 50's era Reds (drank 10 bottles in 10 minutes on a train ride once), and he likes golf a bunch.

If Sutcliffe ever comes to Cincinnati, keep him away from Freel.

I agree, it reeks of political correctness for no real reason. I'd wager a great many of us on here drink with our buddies when we play golf or go to a game, so what, Sutcliffe does too. I think its more Channel 4's embarassment then Rick's.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13, 15
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

They should be embarassed...they were at fault for putting a clearly intoxicated person on the air. I don't personally have a problem with it...but they (Channel 4 and their lame audience) apparently did/do.

If this has already been posted, my apologies: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6MT0JTwBehA&search=sutcliffe

    Just kidding.

Joe's well known for liking the brew and my guess is that he'd admit it!

I blame the network. It's so obvious when someone is drunk. Just say no.

I'd take just about any fat, slobbering drunk you could pull out of the local dive bar over George Grande.

    Seriously.

(and he may even **gasp** use the word "damn" on occasion)

Hell, I'd be keeping my eye on Erin Andrews skirt too.

PTI - for the 900th time it is ownership or PR people that do not want the announcers to say "damn." Ever notice that Thom never says "damn" either? It is not a personal choice of George. If you would ever listen to other teams play by play guys you would know that George is not that bad.
"YES! He rips it. Is it high enough? It's gonna be gone! Adam Dunn has done it again. Big #44 can take all day to round the bases here, thats done and gone- lookout dunner they're waitin for ya at home plate." - George Grand

"Did that just happen?" - Chris Welsch

George Grande gets a bad rap. He is fine. I agree with you.

I got to give George credit for his call on Junior's 600 hr.Much better than Jon Miller's horrible planned home run call when Bonds hit 756.

I was hoping for much more. This is a non story. He was sober there was no rambling or slurred speech.
