    Matsui just gained a fan.

The man dove for the ball and broke his wrist. But with his hand hanging like a raw steak from his arm, he chased after the ball and threw it back in. THAT is a ball player!

Matsui is a wonderful, humble ballplayer, and for the record has the best posture in baseball.

    And the best porn collection.

But Matsui responds by saying that he just wants to be a regular guy—albeit one who jokes that he now has five girlfriends at any one time. He drives a Chevy. He eats steak, has an occasional beer and likes to shoot the breeze with the security guards and maintenance personnel. And, of course, he likes to watch his much vaunted porno collection, tapes that he often trades with Japanese reporters. As one Japanese journalist put it, describing Matsui's affinity for such unique Japanese cultural institutions like the no-panties shabu-shabu in Japan, "Matsui is a horny guy. All of us are horny, more or less. But Matsui doesn't attempt to hide the fact.

That was a terrific article. Makes me like him even more. No hype, no pretention, just a guy who loves what he does. This one's for you Hideki.

Added Sat: I just read where he apologized to his teammates and fans for getting hurt. Wow!

I heard some crazy statistic the other day that (until this season) the Yankees had not had a starting position player miss more than a two week stretch since the 2001 season. With the average age their rossiter has been during that time period, is this possible?

If this is true, that team has been incredibly fortunate.

Well it cant be true. Didnt Derek Jeter miss atleast a month a few years ago when he hurt his shoulder on opening day vs the Blue Jays? I think he was running to 3B and Ken Huckaby(catcher) collided with him or something...

Im pretty sure #2 was out more than 2 weeks
woo woo woo, you know it

Yeah, he was out for about a month, maybe six weeks.

I also think Posada was out for awhile when he broke his ankle...though that may have been before 2001. In general, though, you're right, the Yankees have been lucky in that respect. Before 2000 the whole team did pretty well avoiding injury; since then, their position players have held up pretty well...their pitchers more than make up for it though.

I was skeptical for sure--especially since I heard it on ESPN radio last week.

Dont Japanese folks hang themselves when they shame themselves? Keep Matsui on suicide watch.

Just kidding of course, but apologizing for getting hurt seems a tad "shamed". No reason for him to apologize for busting his butt and getting hurt for it.

Otherwise Griffey would just have a recording he could play us all.
