Same number of XBH, but B hits the ball harder.Originally Posted by reds44

I'll gladly take both.
All models are wrong. Some of them are useful.
It's a toss-up. Which is the better defender?

So far EE has had a better year than Dunn. They both have 17 extra base hits, and have gotten on base at the same rate. EE has made better contact and has a better average. Having said that, I believe given time Dunn will have a better season.
I will take A, becuase I like him more. Both are good though and Im glad we have them.
How about the RISP stat? I'll take player A plus player B's salary for starting pitching.

I think the point is that EE carries a much higher BA than Dunn, has three times as many doubles, and half the walks.
Does that make him the more productive player?
The answer is no. EE has exactly two more RBIs than Dunn. And, except for HRs, the remaining stats are relatively even, with Dunn gaining the edge on slugging because of the HRs.
This certainly proves that BA is highly overrated when judging a player's worth. Yet, how many times do you hear a player's worth berated because of BA (especially Adam Dunn).

Represents about 23% of the at bats in a season. Only part of the picture and one that's not a constant. How about the RISP stat?
Ouch, I was looking at the splits...with more than 1 runner on base, Adam Dunn is 2-18....He has 4 walks and 6 strikeouts in the same situation.
Edwin is 9-25 with more than 1 runner on base, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.
No bash on Dunn becuase as the season goes on he will raise his average with runners on and people will calm down a little bit. He is slugging .605 with risp, not bad at all. Edwin is slugging .625 for those wondering with risp.
Great stat dougdirt!

Eddy gets more clutch hits than Dunn. How many times has Dunn struck or popped out with one out and RISP. It seems that all Dunn's RBI's come in meaningless at bats with a very few exceptions. To me it seems this is the case his whole career
