As much as I hate the stat...

    w/RISP

    Dunn: .184/.340/.605 -- .945 OPS
    Encarnacion: .300/.404/.625 -- 1.029

Sample size problems abound here. But the real point is that If Dunn got the same pitches to hit that Encarnacion did, you'd see a higher BA w/ RISP. He doesn't get anything to hit, because when does hit it, he kills the ball. When he tries to be more aggressive (as Marty suggested last night), he simply swings at pitches that he can't hit well, and strikes out or hits a ball poorly and gets out instead of walking.

The REAL point should be that both are proving to be great offensive players. You don't have to choose just one. We've got both and should enjoy it.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Yeah the 23% that have the highest impact on the game.

Runs scored w/o RISP are worth just as much as runs scored w/RISP.

.963 OPS for a slumping player. Not bad. Yet, he's still the biggest problem on the team.

When you walk as much as he does, and hit as many homers as he does, of course your OPS will be high.

Problem is that is all he does.

nuh uh. every run scored by a weak ground ball with a guy on third and less than two outs is actually a home run. I know. I watch lots of baseball.
School's out. What did you expect?

Fact is, that's all he has to do. It's not pretty and many may find it boring, but it's still effective.

Good pitching and defense, and timely hitting. That is the keys to baseball. Adam Dunn plays terrible defense, and is a terrible timely hitter.

Now the pitching part he can't control.

No. The "keys" to baseball is scoring more runs than your opponent. Adam Dunn helps the Reds do that by getting on base and having lots of power. It's irrefutable.

What he does is create runs. I don't care how he does it, just that he does it.
