That home run was a thing of beauty. Gone from the moment it left the bat, and really the exclamation point that convinced the majority of the crowd that their time was better spent hitting the "refresh" button on their phones browsers to get score updates on the Pistons/Cavs game.

And come on -- the man went opposite field for a double tonight. I'm sure even a couple folks on Reds.com begrudgingly smiled after that.

    woy,

I surmise that Wally must have been hit by a pitch in 1963. How else do you get a BA of .000 (0/7), an OBP of .125 (which logically would be 1/8), and zero walks?

I agree that it stinks with the fact that St. Louis is playing the Royals, while we're playing Detroit, but at the same time this could serve as their motivation to end a slump, as well as show critics that they can beat the best team in baseball.

You take 'em when you can get 'em. You make it sound so easy when it's dependent upon a whole lot of things all coming together... the pitcher, the pitch thrown, the game situation, the count, etc.

If you could pick and choose the appropriate AB... well, wouldn't that be wonderful?

PS - no HR is meaningless, especially if the outcome of the game is winning by one run or evening the score to force extra innings, thus giving the team an extra chance to win. Most people think that every run is important, not just those during the late innings in a close game.

IMHO, that was a "meaningless" statement.
