Most memorable Movie Scores or Songs

I was watching The Sting the other night and it occurred to me that you cannot here that song without associating it with the movie. So I got to thinking of other songs like that. The top 5 I could come up with are (in no order):

    (1) The Sting
    (2) The Jaws music
    (3) Rocky
    (4) The score from the Godfather
    (5) Star Wars

For actual "radio" playing songs I cannot here Layla and not think of Goodfellas and the same is true for Eye of the Tiger and Rocky III.

The Theme for Halloween sticks out for me. Some of best and creepiest music ever made,IMO.
If want to go really old, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, you have to associate with The Wizard of Oz.

Jaws, Fanfare for Rocky, the Godfather, and Star Wars definately stand out for me.

Any work by Hans Zimmer is usually great, and he has done a lot, but "You're So Cool" from True Romance stands out as one of my favorite.

Somebody's Baby and Moving in Stereo always, always remind me of Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

I can no longer hear "The Promise" without thinking of Napoleon Dynamite.

I'm the same way with 'Meet Me Halfway' by Kenny Loggins from the arm-wrestling epic, Over the Top.

But seriously folks...even though it's a great song on its own, when I hear Marvin Gaye's 'Let's Get It On', it's hard for me not to think of Jack Black's rendition in High Fidelity.

Still, I'd have to put Star Wars at the top of most memorable. The Superman theme is a pretty good one too.

I hate a lot of movie scores, especially when they are paritularly string-laden, but when E.T. and Elliott fly in front of the moon to that ridiculous bombastic music I cry my eyes out. EVERY TIME.

    I like Ennio Morricone though.

That's number 2 on my Herrmann score list. Herrmann was great; you never feel that his soundtracks were superadded noise, but rather, an organic extension of the action/scene.

whoever did a lot of the Fellini movies

The scores for the first Batman and Glory were great. The soundtrack for Batman was pretty good too.

I also really liked Gladiator's movie score.

I hadn't thought about Glory but that was excellent. Jaws would top my list
More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.

Max Steiner: King Kong and also Adventures of Don Juan, which (I could be wrong here) makes an appearance in Goonies when Chunk meats Sloth and then later when Sloth comes down the sail.

    Also, Dr. Zhivago

Well, as long as we're talking about Kenny Loggins, how can we forget I'm Alright from Caddyshack?
For every action there is an equal and opposite criticism.
