San Diego Padres Designated pitcher Jim Brower for assignment

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/transactions
San Diego Padres Designated pitcher Jim Brower for assignment; purchased the contract of pitcher Brian Sikorski from Portland of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).

Would he be a upgrade to what we have in the pen now? I am wondering if this might be another possible low risk move.

His stats this year are horrible but he might be worth a look in the minors. He really can't be much worse than White. For this year between Baltimore and SD he has a 12.15 ERA and a WHIP of 1.80.

Thanks Redsfanatic. It looks like he has struggled recently. I think he would be worth a low risk look and might be an improvement over White.

I think the Reds would be better off giving Standridge another chance before a guy like Brower.

This is the second time this year he's been DFA'd. If we weren't interested last time, I doubt we'd take a flyer on him now. He looks cooked.

There looks to be quite a few dfas available. I belive Colter Bean only has a couple more days before Yankees must make a move with him. Would Bean be the best player to claim for our 40th roster spot.

I think Brower is worth a look. In the past 3 years (2003-2005) he's averaging:

    IP 84
    H 84 (IP-H 1.0)
    ER 38 (IP-ER 2.2)
    BB 36 (IP-BB 2.3)
    SO 60 (IP-SO 1.4)
    WHIP 1.4

Jim doesn't give up the long ball much (good thing in GABP), his WHIP is OK and as long as he's not inheriting runners he'll record holds. The guy throws strikes.

His numbers have started to seriously slide from 2005- present. Even while picthing in a pitcher's park SD this year.

I think Mr. Brower may have reached the end of his MLB rope.
Nothing to see here. Please disperse.
