    A couple of observations:
Amazingly, the pitching improved in May. It was pretty darn good. A check of the offensive stats shows why the Reds floundered in May. More strikeouts and way less walks is what jumps out at me (along with the BA going from .267 to .248--ouch!).

Which is the real Cincinnati Reds team? The April version or the May version (or somewhere in between)?

    Weigh in...
For every action there is an equal and opposite criticism.

    Quality starts
    Apr. - 13 QS, REDS record 11-2.
    May - 14 QS, REDS record 6-8.

What happened in May during those QS losses?
Bullpen: 11 ER in 11 innings.
Offense: 6 runs and 39 hits in 8 games.

May was ugly, and even moreso after looking at those numbers.

I'm glad June is here...and the last two games have been much more fun to watch.

What's amazing is for once, the offense was the culprit during the month of May. I never thought we would see that.

By most measures, the pitching has exceeded expectations.
What if this wasn't a rhetorical question?

The defense was pretty bad in May too...

Indeed it was. It's probably a contributing factor to the May team ERA too.

And a non-ERA contributing factors as well. Reds pitchers gave up 19 unearned runs in May v. only 12 unearned runs in April.
