    Trade

Friend of mine was asking for some advice (doesn't have an username so I'll ask for him)

    Chad Tracy
    Brad Penny

    for

    Miguel Cabrera

He has Miguel at his 3B slot, so the position player for position player would be a downgrade, but he also gets Brad Penny who is doing good.

He would be dropping Mark Mulder, so essentially it would be Tracy/Penny for Cabrera/Mulder.

    SP Bonderman
    SP Lowe
    RP Wagner
    RP Jenks
    P Dempster
    BN: Mulder
    DL: Carpenter

Only problem would be when Carpenter comes back, not sure who would be dropped then.

    Re: Trade

That's not enough to give up Cabrera. Penny is a pitch away from being out for the year and Tracy, while a very decent player, is obviously not Miguel Cabrera.

I would need a top level pitcher (ie Halladay, Zito, Oswalt, etc) and a player like Tracy to give up Cabrera.

As Buckeye said, even though Tracy has been playing well that isn't enough for Cabrera. People may try to make low offers for Cabrera by saying he plays for a lousy team so won't have as many RBI or runs. Don't let him buy into it, he's fantasy elite.
More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.

As a general rule, you don't give up top-tier talent unless you're getting top-tier talent in return. One elite player is worth more than two (maybe three) good players, unless you've got a glaring need.
