With right-handers Tyler Graham, Jake Ramsey and Tyler Dewitt, the Bruins may have the best pitching staff in the Sacramento area. Graham, a first-team All-Metro selection last year and Oregon State signee, is the ace. He was 9-0 with six shutouts last season and had 14 strikeouts in a playoff game. Coach Eric January will depend on catcher Ian Cook to handle his talented pitching staff and hopes he maintains or improves upon his .382 batting average of last year.

Erben has dominated all season, going 11-1 with a 0.55 ERA and 143 strikeouts in 76 innings. And Erben, who has thrown six shutouts, pitched a stretch of nearly two months without allowing a run.

"We've played teams with stud pitchers," said Erben, who missed most of his junior year with a torn rotator cuff. "Their presence brings an attitude change. As a pitcher, you want teams to fear you."

Making matters worse for opponents is that Erben isn't an easy out at the plate. A designated hitter or shortstop when he's not pitching, Erben is hitting .333 with 33 RBIs and six home runs.

HP John Housey - Nova High

"He's the ace of their staff, and Nova's a great program. He plays third base and hits for them also, but we recruited him as a pitcher. He's right-handed, and even though he's going to get drafted pretty good we feel good about him coming to school. He's a big tall right hander, 6-3, and throws very well. He'll get drafted pretty good. His dad is also a scout for the Chicago Cubs and I feel pretty good about him coming to school. His father and I have talked, we know each other pretty good and he knows his son coming to school is going to help him as far as getting bigger and stronger. Working with [pitching coach] J.D. [Arteaga] for three years is also going to help him increase his draft status tremendously

Leading the team is J.J. Housey, who has recorded a 5-0 record with a 1.37 ERA, 40 strikeouts in 28 innings 2005

Thanks again for picking up the slack.

I was just approved for my vacation at work.

I'll be leaving tomorrow night to drive to San Diego.

Should be a hell of a trip.

Plan on going to the Pads games next TUE, WED vs LA.

I'm sitting in "the beach" area in CF.
