You all do realize that, after Bruce, we have no realistic starting OF prospects in the system. And Dunn and Kearns are as likely to be wearing another uniform in 3-4 years than they are to be Reds.

I wholeheartedly agree. The Reds need to add talent everywhere in their system. I really don't mind grabbing toolsy guys in the 4th and 5th round. At that point, there are no sure things, so why not take a chance on an athlete (as opposed to a crappy pitcher)?

Drew Stubbs on MLB Radio. His advisor worked out a deal before the pick. So he should at least sign quickly. There's talk of Ken Griffey Jr. and defense.

The talk about defense is so passionate I'm thinking of Dane Sardinha with an outfielder's glove. They mention some hitting stuff at the end.

Then an email that asks why LaPorta hasn't been drafted. And no Dellin Betances, either.

As an aside, Dave Ronsley or whatever his name is from Perfect Game USA? Great commentator. Somebody make him the Mel Kiper of baseball.

Drew Stubbs on MLB Radio. His advisor worked out a deal before the pick.

Stubbs was simply a signability pick. Wouldn't have mattered if Miller had fallen to them, they wouldn't have selected him. The only reason you to make a pre-draft deal is because you are more interested in cost certainty than talent, otherwise you would select the best player available and then negotiate with them at that time.

I guess I could better understand the infatuation with CF types if GABP wasn't one of the smallest and easiest CFs to play in the majors.

But I think the Reds want to improve defense everywhere.

As an example, I think the Indians trading Coco Crisp was at least part of the reason their pitching regressed. It really helps to have OF that can cover ground.

I really wouldn't mind if the Reds continue to grab these toolsy athletes for the rest of the draft if they can't find any pitchers that intrigue them. The Reds have tried spending 75% of their picks on pitchers in the past (just for the sake of collecting pitchers) and it hasn't worked.
