Stanley Cup Final loses in the TV Ratings war to....softball

Wow - how the mighty have fallen

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/colum...tand-nba_x.htm

Invisible TV: OLN averaged 611,000 households for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday. That's fewer households than ESPN2 drew for an Arizona-Northwestern college women's softball game Monday night. It is 39% fewer households than ESPN drew for the Stanley Cup series opener two years ago.

And, it's probably fewer households than will check out this column — although, to be fair, it's indisputable that Monday's NHL Cup game drew far more ticketholders than the creation of this copy.

Considering the small-market teams in the final and the likelihood of lingering resentment over/apathy induced by the missed season, it doesn't surprise me.

Hockey killed itself, last season. It was an up and coming sport, but the greed of the owners and players last year is going to be tough to overrcome for many years.
    See: Baseball, 1994.
