Nats hire Davey Johnson as special consultant to GM
    Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- The Washington Nationals hired former major-league manager and player Davey Johnson on Wednesday as a special consultant to general manager Jim Bowden.

The 63-year-old Johnson will contribute to player personnel matters, including the evaluation and scouting of major- and minor-league players, the team said.

Johnson managed for 14 seasons in the majors with the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers. He led the Mets to a World Series championship in 1986 and a division title in 1988.

Bowden was the GM of the Reds teams that Johnson guided to back-to-back division championships in 1994 and '95. Johnson was named American League manager of the year in 1997 when he took the Orioles to a division title.

More recently, Johnson coached the Dutch team at the Athens Olympics, managed the United States team in an Olympic qualifying tournament and was a bench coach for the U.S. team at the World Baseball classic.

No way MLB lets Jim Bowden fire Frank Robinson. OTOH, I wouldn't be surprised if Frank quit because according to Marty he's got a really bad relationship with Bowden.
School's out. What did you expect?

So much for Johnson saying he didn't want to get back into baseball.
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!

So, let me get this straight. There's a rumor out there that somebody has a hard time working with Bowden?

It's too bad the Reds didn't bring Davey into their fold in a similar capacity. As a perceived Friend-of-Bowden, he may be back on the market when the new owners in DC tire of JimBo's antics.

I guess I look at this way, just because Marty said so doesn't exactly mean it's true... or perhaps inflated a little bit.
