Ryan Wehrle U Nebraska Lincoln SS R/R 6'3" 1985-05-31 SO
Comments: As a draft-eligible sophomore, signability is a concern, but he's a comer in a class weak on college bats. A good hitter with developing power, he may stay at shortstop as a pro, but his bat will play at third base down the road.

Braves select Ryan Wehrle, SS, University of Nebraska. A close call between him and Cole Gillespie.

I'm going to pluck Stewie's eyes out. I really wanted Newton. The guy's got a quick bat, power, a fabulous eye at the plate, 4.1 speed to 1B as a RHB and a strong arm. He even plays CF when he's not behind the plate.

He's not a pure receiver, but I've grown ill with pure receivers like Dane Sardinha and Miguel Perez who don't have a clue at the plate. Hopefully the Reds get all over a guy like Newton and teach him the finer points of catching.

I've going out for a while to hit some baseballs.

I would just like to thank everyone who participated in this draft. I had an absolute blast. Hopefully we can make this a tradition every year before the real draft. Thanks again everyone!

BTW, Reds44 said to just give him the bpa on his next pick.

With the 103rd selection of the draft, the Boston Red Sox pick a young man with a generic name and a sidearm delivery, Joe Smith, RHP, Wright State University.

The next pick belongs to the Yankees, who suck.

I've seen highlights of Smith, and he looks pretty good. Haven't seen him live (even though he pitches about 20 miles from my house). He could be the next Wright St. pitcher, after Brian Anderson, to hit the bigs.

I like your draft too. Southpaws and offensive players with nice upside.

You did a good job Redleader. I hope we can do this draft again next year. It does make the real draft tommorrow more exciting. we will at least be more familiar with the picks.
