    Reds Prospects?

How many Reds prospects have a chance at being top 100 this year?

I think we have 6 prospects with a legit shot at being on the list.

    1. Homer Bailey- Maybe Top 25
    2. Jay Bruce- Top 50
    3. Drew Stubbs- Maybe Top 50
    4. Travis Wood- Top 75
    5. Johnny Cueto- Top 100
    6. Joey Votto- Top 100

Has the Reds farm system really improved this much? We were ranked 30th by BA coming into the season. I believe if these guys continue the season's they are having they all have a shot

We do seem to have a few pitching prospects that were relativly unheard of at the beginning of the season. I could see 3 or 4 top 100 for next year. It would be great to now add some depth to the minor league system.

The problem with the rankings is this is it. There isn't much else to put into even a top 200.

I would say if Homer Bailey pitches at the exact rate he is right now, he will be between 20-25.
Jay Bruce will be in the top 50, probably somewhere between 35-50 depending on what his numbers actually end up at.
Stubbs, I think it will just all depend on how he performs. If he performs well I see him probably somewhere between 60-75.
Travis Wood and Cueto will probably both be somewhere between 75-100.
Votto is a wild card. He probably falls somewhere between 80-110.
I think this isnt a problem like edabbs said, that is some good talent there. You have 2.5 good hitters (Stubbs is .5 becuase we havent seen him hit yet with wood against some pros) and 3 good pitchers all 20 or younger. That seems like a good thing. I would rather have 6 top 125 talent guys with little after that really than 2 or 3 top 100 guys and a little bit more sprinkled in there, becuase honestly how often do guys come from the minor leagues and truly turn out to be good? Not often. So I would rather have a top heavy in a sense system.

I would say that, depending on how the summer plays out that Syzmanski and Loo could be up there (top 200) and maybe a few of the early picks from this draft (Watson).

Also, Rosales has been injured but appears to be finally healthy. Keep an eye on his numbers as he may finish strong and raise his stock to top 200.

Any way you look at it, this propect list looks better than pre-season, thanks to Cueto, Stubbs, and the continued growth (without injury-knock on "wood") of Bailey and Wood.

    Re: Reds Prospects?

Well, here's the thing: Top 100 list divided by 30 teams means a typical team's share would be three or four guys. To say we could get five or six implies that our fifth- and sixth-best guys are going to bump other teams' third- or fourth-best guys off the list, and I don't think that's right. Or, at least, I don't think anyone making up those Top 100 lists is going to think so.

I think you are getting way ahead of yourself.

The BA Top 100 is for guys who have monsterous gobs of skill and athleticism, or for guys who have put up off the charts numbers, or perhaps both.

The Reds have some nice prospects, like Bailey and Bruce, but beyond that they don't really have anyone else who falls in that category. That is not to say the guys you listed won't some day make nice major leaguers. But that's not what the BA 100 list is all about. If Votto keeps OPSing a shade below .900 for Chatty and he'll slide in there. Otherwise I wouldn't hold your breath for the rest of those guys to make it.

Bruce leads all of the minors in XBH. That is off the charts.

BA said that Drew Stubbs has a good chance to be in their top 50 next year.
