He gave up hits to Neifi Perez and Juan Pierre, two of the worst hitters in the world. This was partly Claussen's fault.

Yep, it was a error. Even though Pierre was fast, BP didn't even try to get himself set, if he would of, Pierre would have been out. He just threw it away.
