"His problem, to me, and I'm not a pitching coach or anything, is that he nipples to much "

To think that going to a BP is a demotion in MLB these days is not right...teams are asking for and getting as much for BP than they are for starters...I believe that is the trend TeamClark was relaying on another post.

I agree with the move to put claussen in as a lefty specialist...DFA Merker...or change his role on the club...what that would be, I don't know.

Re: What to do with Claussen

Claussen has no options left so demoting him is not the answer.

I'm not so sure he'd work well out of the pen either as he's notorious for having a bad first inning before settling down. That's certainly not what we want to see out of the bullpen. The Reds would just be shooting themselves in the foot... like they do every time already. You never know what you're going to get with most of the BP; do we really want to add another one of that ilk?

We all know he can do it because he's pitched some very good games... just not enough of them. Unfortunately, he has no confidence because he's so inconsistent. I don't know how you fix that. Work with Soto maybe? Of course, that can't be done now even if it was an option. .

I certainly don't think Mays is a viable option. Narron can say all he wants that Mays has pitched well for the Reds so far (I just read that comment this morning), but we all know it's BS. Okay, so he only gave up one run last night; the unspoken part of that JN comment is that it's the only run he gave up that was charged to him!

I agree with RedsBaron... 4-man rotation. There is no one decent enough to slip into the #5 slot without weakening the rotation badly and that is something the Reds can not afford to do. Earlier this year, they were actively considering the 4-man rotation but then things turned around and there was no more talk of it. I know Arroyo was not intimidated by it but never saw any comments from the others.

The only other alternative I can see is to bring up Dumatrait or Germano and give them a try (we already know Burns can't do it). If it doesn't work out, send 'em back and go with Harang, Arroyo, Milton, and Ramirez.

One thing I do know (or at least I think I do)? Mays is not the answer.... not unless JN has a magic wand. If he goes out there and gets the job done next week (and the weeks after), great! I'll sit down to a dinner of crow with some others around here; I'll even cook it... but I doubt any of us will ever have to worry about that.

What I would really like to see the Reds try is a four man rotation. There are studies indicating that a four man starting rotation is no harder on pitchers arms than a five man rotation, with the key being to carefully watch pitch counts in the games that are started.
This might work but the pen needs to be upgraded. Perhaps, Claussen and a trade would do it.

Re: What to do with Claussen

Claussen is going to be checked out by Kremcheck this weekend, Claussen was complaining of some shoulder soreness.

Mays will pitch next week, REGARDLESS of Claussen's health status.

    That is all for now.

I think a few one on one sessions with Deno should bring him around. He knows more about pitching than any ten men, and he can heat his hands up like Mr. Miagi and cure shoulder stiffness as well.

Either that, or we should DL him

Re: What to do with Claussen

Claussen is not a MLB pitcher. Maybe as a lefty bullpen specialist, but he's is NOT a starter in this league. I hope he never comes off the DL & fades into oblivion.

He has the dumbest look on his face like he has no clue usually. I cringe when he's scheduled to pitch, like I'm going for a colonoscopy!

Give some other bum a shot. Can we get back Rijo from the Nationals?
