Hopefully, this also means Zach Ward will be making his next start in Sarasota.

His first full year is anything but spectacular, but at least his arm is still attached, as far as we know. Say goodbye to Dayton, and say hellooooooooo to Sarasota.

Year 2 starts out with Jerry Narron stealing the keys to the hype machine and heads for the interstate and was last seen traveling at a very high rate of speed. Wayne Krivsky is following close behind with the sirens blaring, but he has barely been able to keep up with his manager. Also, Mario Soto doesn't know who this kid is, but "he look good, berry, berry good." Add a few dominating performances, sprinkled with a few not so good performances and Sarasota is in the rear view mirror, and we have a prospect going full steam ahead (a little metaphor stew, anyone?).

Now, we finally have the kid accumulating some value, but will all of that go down the tubes with a crash and burn at Chattanooga? Stay tuned.

Nope, let's leave Mr. Ward to progress the entire year at Dayton.

He can head to Sarasota next year.

Bailey's pitches were consistently in the mid-90 mph range and he continued to improve on his off speed pitches, particularly a tantalizing seemingly easy-to-hit curveball.

this is why i wouldnt have moved him. let him continue to improve at a level he has gotten comfortable at. i personally, no matter what numbers say, am not big into promoting player mid season if they are under aa. once they are at aa, i dont have a problem with promotions up

Onward and upward: Reds top pitching prospect Homer Bailey has been promoted to Double-A Chattanooga. The 20-year-old right-hander, who was 3-5 with a 3.31 ERA in 13 starts for Class A Sarasota this season, will make his debut for the Lookouts on Thursday.

NEW YORK - Homer Bailey was promoted. Relax.

To Double-A Chattanooga, not the Reds.

Bailey will make his Double-A debut Thursday for the Lookouts versus Carolina.

Bailey, the Reds' No. 1 draft pick in 2003, went 3-5 with a 3.31 ERA in 13 starts for Single-A Sarasota.

Those numbers don't sound overwhelming. But the Reds are pleased with his progress.

"He's made a lot of improvement," said Grant Griesser, the Reds' assistant director of player development. "He's getting the plate quicker. The only thing that was lacking was consistency. But he's right on track."

Bailey flirted with a no-hitter twice with Sarasota. When he was on, he was simply overpowering for Florida State League hitters.

Bailey allowed only 49 hits in 702/3 innings. He struck out 79 and walked 22.

If Bailey's successful at Double-A, his next stop could be Cincinnati. Double-A players often get September call-ups.

Re: Homer Bailey officially promoted to Double-A Chattanooga

My take on promotions goes something like this...

If a pitcher is working on the development of a secondary pitch(changeup) he needs to stay at his current level until he masters that pitch, even if he is dominating that level.

If a pitcher is working on his control, and already has secondary pitches, promote him.

It's very simple. A guy who is dominating a level with average comand needs to have the feed back that only hitters can give. If a guy who is trying to develop a pitch gets that same feed back, he will lose confidence in that pitch, and probable stop throwing it.

I'm not sure where Bailey's change up fits, but I bet its not good enough to get promoted.
