The word "clutch" gets thrown around a lot these days. There's even been a thread or two dedicated to "clutch-ness" and "clutch-ocity.

It's the bottom of the 9th, 2 outs in game 7 of the world series. Your team has a runner on 2nd base and is down by 1 run. The question for discussion is....who do you want at the plate? Who is your defination of "Mr. Clutch"?

Assuming it was the Reds, who would you want at the plate?
Assuming it was any current player, who would you want at the plate?
Assuming it was any player in history, who would you want at the plate?

As always, your reasoning for your choice would be interesting.

1) Reds - Umm, I'll go with Griffey. The numbers may not bear it out that he's the best choice, but gut feeling says to give it to the guy.

2) Current - I'd probably go with Pujols. Best hitter in the game at the moment. Other choices would be: Manny, Lance Berkman, Derek Jeter. Good hitters, always seem to make something happen.

3) Any player - Me, of course. Run probably wouldn't score, but I'd definately enjoy it.

Reds: Valentin seems to enjoy that role, but I'd probably be okay with Junior as well.

Current: Pujols. No doubt.

Scott Hatteberg- And that's an honest answer. He doesn't swing at junk, he's not trying to lift it out of the park and he always makes solid contact. All we need is one in the gap and he excels at this. Brandon Phillips is a close 2nd and then perhaps Felo and then Griffey.

Current Player of any team
Derek Jeter- He thrives under pressure. He's a good bat handler and is both intelligent enough to understand what he needs to do and how he is going to get it, and talented enough to do it. Because he is a winner and winners always find a way to win. No Close second.

All-Time Player
Barry Larkin- I thought he was Jeter before Jeter although many may not give him the respect he deserves I would live and die with him in that scenario. All those other greats are fine but I want Barry wielding the lumber in that scenario. Close 2nd Joe Morgan then Paul Molitor.
