Prospect Watch: Abe Woody

Abe Woody was drafted out of Baylor in the 31st Round of the Amateur Draft, he relies more on his breaking pitches than his fastball, throwing an excellent slider, and a sinker, which will bode well for his future in our small park. Woody was the closer for Baylor.
Abe woody has been a bright spot for the Sarasota Reds this Season as his numbers so far:
(4-2) 5 Saves 2.90 ERA, 35K's, 21 Walks, a 1.54 WHIP in 40.1 IP over 26 games.

In his most Recent outing, Woody looked spectacular, on WED June 21, Woody came in in the 7th inning pitching 3 strong innings of 1 hit ball. He struck out 1 and surrendered only 1 walk, which was intentional, he recieved the win for his strong showing over Clearwater. The best stat of all, he had a 6-1 ground-flyout ratio.

I remember watching Woody pitch in last year's CWS and I liked what I saw. IIRC, he is short in stature but possesses a real good fastball. I'm surprised he lasted until round 31 last year.

Yeah, I happened to catch a few games of him pitching at Baylor as well in the previous CWS. His stats were better than what I'd have thought.

Not doing that bad this year for Sarasota, a promotion to Chatanooga could be on the horizon.
