Billings Mustangs Currently on ML Rosters

Interesting story at the Billings Mustangs website about how many former players are currently on major league rosters - 15 - Not sure that's a great number, but it's interesting to see who we once had. (NB, I forget that Ray King was drafted by the Reds).

The 2006 Major League Baseball season is underway with 15 former Billings Mustangs on the rosters of eight different big league teams.
The Cincinnati Reds, the Mustangs parent club, lead the way with five former players who wore a Billings uniform. Adam Dunn and Austin Kearns, both 1998 Mustangs, start in the outfield for the Reds.

They are joined on the Reds roster by former Mustangs reliever Todd Coffey (1998 and 2001) and third baseman Edwin Encarnacion (2001). Catcher Jason LaRue, a member of the 1995 Mustangs, begins the season for Cincinnati on the 15-day disabled list with a knee injury.

Kansas City currently has three former Mustangs playing for the Royals. Outfielder Reggie Sanders (1988) and catcher Paul Bako (1993) both signed with Kansas City in the off season. Bobby Madritsch, a member of the 1998 Mustangs, starts the season on the 60-day DL for the Royals.

Third baseman Aaron Boone (1994) and first baseman Ben Broussard (1999) are on the opening day roster of the Cleveland Indians.

Five other teams have a former member of the Mustangs on their rosters. B.J. Ryan (1998) made news in the off season when he signed a $47 million deal to become the closer for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Trevor Hoffman (1989) is the closer for the San Diego Padres. Scott Williamson (1997) is on the Chicago Cubs roster. John Koronka (1998 and 1999) is pitching for the Texas Rangers and Ray King (1995) is with the Colorado Rockies.

This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.

It really is a sad testament to the Reds abysmal record in years past regarding pitching.
