    Big Papi does it again

    "The greatest clutch hitter in Red Sox history just did it again...."

    That was the announcers call as Big Papi just stroked one into the gap to win it in extra innings for the Red Sox.

    Ooops, I forgot. No such thing as clutch.

    .927 OPS means he's got a bunch of clutch in that big ole belly.

    A .700 OPS probably means a little less clutch is flowing through his veins.

    His OPS this year with RISP is exactly the same as his overall OPS (.921)

    Maybe it isn't that he's clutch, it's that he's not a choker.

    You mean like Dunn's last year?

    How do you go about "losing" clutch once you've shown you've got it?

    Phillies must be having AL East nightmares keeping them awake at night.

    35-40 for the Phils. Which is good since they seemed like a legit threat for the NL WC spot. It looks like it may just come down to NL Central runner up/NL West runner-up -- first to claim 87 wins get the prize...

    The Mets might be able to win that slumbering division with 75 victories.

    I wonder how many game winning hits he has in the last inning?

    Interesting reading on 'clutch'.....Dunn was top 10 last year, bottom 10 this year and 2004

    Manual is nuts, 1st was open and a walk was called for... but alas he had to let the picther decide who he should face.

    David Ortiz career RISP

    .295/.387/.493

    Yaz

    .289/.405/.466

    You can walk Ortiz for the priviledge of pitching to Manny, who is hitting
    .345/.476/.678 the past three seasons with RISP. They had already dodged that particular bullet once in the 11th inning. Sometimes you just have to pick your poison.

    Yep, it's a gamble, I also just noticed first wasn't empty so that makes it a bigger gamble.

    2 outs do you juice the bases to go with Right vs Righty or pitch and pray?

    It's a tough decision.

    Ortiz versus right handers:
    OBP=.402
    Slug=.563
    OPS=.964

    Manny versus right handers:
    OBP=.424
    Slug=.653
    OPS=1.076

    Manny = Protection

    They did have a base open (3rd) and lefty Rhodes in the pen. No idea if he was up and warm though. The Sox only needed one run to win, so loading the bases shouldn't have been a problem.

    The Phillies had the lead and needed 3 outs going into the bottom of the 12th inning. They just came up one short today.

    It was the 10th regular-season, game-ending hit of Ortiz's career.
    "panic" only comes from having real expectations
