    Prospect Profile: Michael Jones

    Michael Jones

    Background
    Born: November 19, 1986
    6'3" 180
    Throws: Right Bats: Right
Drafted: 8th Round, 242nd overall by the Cincinnati Reds.

    Background information

Michael Jones went to Wayne County High School in Jessup, Georgia. For such a small school, the Reds have actually drafted two players from the school before. In 1978 the Reds drafted John Warren in the 11th round and in 1980 they drafted Willie Wilson in the 33rd round. Neither player signed with the Reds.

    Scouting Report

Dont have much of a scouting report on his, but here are some things I could find.

Jones has good bat speed and good power. Has the potential to hit for both average and for power. He was drafted a SS, but has made the transition to the outfield in 2006. He has average speed, but an above average arm. He is one of those high risk, high reward type of players. Last year in extended ST, Jones impressed Reds personnel when he hit a 420 foot home run with a wooden bat at age 18.

    Minor Leagues

Michael Jones started off last year and finished last year playing for the GCL Reds in rookie ball. He struggled a bit in his first taste of professional baseball. He is repeating his season in the GCL this year, he already has half as many walks in a ton fewer at bats. Hopefully he is starting to get some plate discipline.

Doug, it's a good thing you put this up. I'd been wondering: who is Mike Jones?

I completely slacked off on keeping this up to date.

Mike is now playing with the Billings Mustangs. His season stats are below for this season

    Code:
AVG G AB R	H 2B	3B HR	RBI BB SO SB CS OBP SLG OPS
    .400 8 25 3	10 0	1 0	3 2 5 2 1 .429 .480	.909

    Who?

One and only, can't clone me.

    Ok, I'm down now.

He's started off really well for Billings this year. Hopefully he can keep it up.

I hope he can. Coming out of HS he was touted as an absolute stud of an athlete.

Yes, we can. However all through ST and extended spring training he was reportedly hitting the crap out of the baseball.

I'm glad to hear it. He sounds like the sort of prospect we need in our system.I do hope he continues to play this well, as he moves up the minor league system.
