    Prospect Profile: Trevor Lawhorn

    http://reds.mostvaluablenetwork.com/index.php?p=109
    9. Trevor Lawhorn, 2B, East Carolina:
    6′2″/182, Age: 23

    2004 Billings: .240/.322/.406, 56 G, 217 AB, 7 HR, 34 RBI, 23 BB, 50 K, 15/18 SB, 6 E

    2005 Dayton: .261/.294/.409, 84 G, 303 AB, 6 HR, 45 RBI, 13 BB, 63 K, 11/17 SB

    2006 level: Sarasota

Very steady at the plate until the end of the second half of his rookie season, and while he doesn’t have a heck of a lot of range in the field, he showed decent hands. Has some power and speed. Will move up, and a good bet to do well in Single-A due to his collegiate polish.

Lawhorn’s bat struggled at first in Dayton in 2005, but a late-season hot streak has pushed his line to .261/.294/.409 in 84 games. His plate discipline hasn’t been the best, but he has shown some bat speed. It’s going to be time for him to step up in 2006.

    Re: Prospect Profile: Trevor Lawhorn

Here is an article on Trevor Lawhorn but the writer is saying it is his brother Darryl Lawhorn by mistake.
    http://starnewsonline.com/apps/pbcs....1005/frontpage
    Article published Sep 3, 2006
Ex-Wildcat puts up big numbers in A ball

For several weeks, Darryl Lawhorn bashed one line drive after another, but always at someone.
"It is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen,'' the former New Hanover High School star said. "I have nothing to show for it.''
A utility player for the Cincinnati Reds' Sarasota affiliate in the high-Class A Florida State League, Lawhorn's fortunes might be about to change.
He drove in two runs - only his fifth RBI during August - on Thursday.
"I finally found a hole,'' he said.
He had three hits in the previous 37 at-bats and batted only .189 for August.
"He's done a good job,'' said Grant Griesser, the Reds' assistant director of player development. "He's had some big hits.''
Lawhorn delivered a two-run single in a three-run eighth inning of Thursday's 6-2 triumph over Fort Myers.
A second baseman by trade, Lawhorn has shuffled back and forth between the right and left side of the diamond.
"He hasn't been locked into one position like most players like,'' Griesser said. "But he's done everything we've asked of him. He's a gamer. He plays the game hard. He's a good runner and he has a little power in his at bat.''
Despite a run-production drought, Lawhorn has averaged an RBI every 11 at-bats.
"If you project his numbers over a full season, he'd have 20 doubles and drive in around 50-plus runs,'' Griesser said.
Lawhorn has been used at third base, second base and designated hitter. He said fielding the ball is not a problem at the hot corner.
"It is just knowing my range,'' he said. "You have a whole lot more range up the middle and more time. At third, you dive for it or it is past you. I had to learn to have a quicker step and a dive either way.''
Making throws also has been an adjustment.
"If I'm at third, I can fire it hard across the diamond, but then when I get used to that, I go to second and I can't throw hard anymore,'' he said. "I have to slow my arm down. Sometimes I'll push the ball up or something. The footwork is a whole lot different, and throwing is a lot of footwork. It is remembering what to do with your feet.''
Lawhorn realizes versatility can prolong his career and said it is a point of emphasis in the offseason.
"I'm glad they are letting me do all this stuff,'' he said. "I'm more valuable to do them if I'm a third baseman, second baseman and shortstop instead of as a second baseman.''
"Consistency on defense is the thing he has to work on,'' Griesser added. "His value is probably his defense. We'd like to see him polish his defense and play all four infield positions and some in the outfield.''
    COVERING THE BASES
On Tuesday, after fouling off three full-count pitches, Quinton McCracken drove in the go-ahead run in the 11th inning in Rochester's 6-5 victory at Pawtucket. He fell behind 0-2 in the count during the nine-pitch at-bat. ... Tyrell Godwin's speed won a game for New Orleans on Wednesday. He reached on an error, swiped second and scored on an eighth-inning single in a 5-4 victory.
