Fine China is now 3-0 with the Lookouts with a .000 era

    Stats:

    17 innings pitched, 4 walks, 22 K, .000 era

I know this has been beat to death, but come on....why is the 2nd best pitcher in our organization in AA ball? We need pitching now! Should he be allowed to pitch 120 pitches per outing? No. He's not fine china. If his head can't take a couple of losses then he's not major league material.

I remember when Kearns came up a couple of years ago...just a few weeks, no big deal...he will go back down. We all know how that ended up. A late season injury from winning the Rookie of the year award.

The Reds could do the same with Homer. "a couple of starts, no big deal..he will go back down." This would take the pressure off of him and sort of hedge the reds bet. If he has some dissipointing starts, then he was going back down anyway, he earned those starts to replace an injured Claussen, or whoever.

What would 2 starts hurt? If he's not ready then he will know and so will the Reds, no big deal. He has to go to bed at night and say, " Claussen and Milton are starting....and I'm not?"

How come its ok for quarterbacks with great arms to "take their lumps" and learn the league under fire and not pitchers? Are pitchers getting hit by 275 pound linbackers? There are cases where it has worked out not playing your best QB...Palmer of the Bengals, but the Superbowl champs started a rookie and it turned out sort of good...right? I remember in the 80's the Bronco's started a QB that took some lumps as well, he won 2 rings.

Oh.. the lookouts must have one heck of a pen to save 3 wins for Homer with 17 innings pitched...lets give a couple of them a chance as well. Could they do worse than our pen...seriously?

Yes they could do worse. It's possible.

It's only 3 starts in AA. Don't get carried away yet. It's rare when the Reds have a good pitching prospect and there is no need to rush him and potentially hurt his development. He is fine China IMO. Be very careful.

Krivsky said that Bailey needs to work on his off speed pitches.
If he needs work to improve his off speed pitches, the best place for that is in the minors.

Ptiching unlike hitting requires more development. As some of the guys here who have more in depth knowledge of the minor leagues have indicated what they are trying to get Homer to do is refine and add a few more pitches to his repetoire. We want him to become a great starting pitcher that the REDS will have for many years. Not a great reliever who can help out for this year and then bounce around the minors and then just become another hot prospect that gets bundled up as a trade. I would compare him to other pitchers not hitters, look at what has happened to Wags.

Quarterbacks are going to be on the team roster if they're playing or not. To bring up homer means two things:

1.) He goes on the 40 man roster, costing some other player his spot.
2.) His arb clock starts clicking. He will get more expensive, more quickly, if we start his arb clock now. If we aren't planning to make him a full part of the team, there is no reason to get him to arb sooner than necessary.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Lets just leave him in the minors maybe he could become the pitching version of Crash DAvis and break minor league records for wins and strike outs. No need to call him up its not like he is dominating his competiton.
When I see the 2016 Reds, I see a 100 loss team and no direction.

I think he'll be in Cincinnati before year's end but he is not a reliever so I'm not as anxious to push him. Bring up a couple of these young relievers instead. They can't do any worse.

No, No, No. Do not rush the kid through the system. Remember the Reds' past sins of doing it.

The Reds have a crown jewel here and they need to be careful how he is handle. Even if it means not winning anything this year, I'm willing to go this route instead of risking damaging Homer Bailey's career.

2nd best pitcher in the organization?????

Harang and Arroyo are both top notch starters this year. Bailey presently ranks behind both, by a long shot.

It's his first trip through that league. Wait and see how the league adjusts on his second trip through before considering anything radical.

The Peter Principle has never been a particularly effective philosophy for developing pitchers.

    1. Service time. Learn about it, understand it.

    2. Right from the horse's mouth. Krivsky explained the Reds position on Homer in very graphic detail during the game a few nights ago.

Homer is blowing the opposition away with mostly mid-90's heat. That works fine in the minors. It gets pounded in the bigs.

They want him to develop confidence with his breaking and offspeed stuff. That's what they're working on with him. That's what will keep him in the bigs when he does arrive.

They want him to be ready. It's no big conspiracy. It's solid thinking and responsible management.

Re: Fine China is now 3-0 with the Lookouts with a .000 era

I remember a kid by the name of Ryan Wagner who was a number one draft pick and was pitching very well in the minors with a great fastball that nobody could touch.

I remember he dominated the first few times out in a Reds Uniform and then the bottom fell out and he was sent back to the minors where he has continued to struggle from the shell shock of being rocked in the major leagues.

Lets just let him learn how to pitch before we bring him up. Remember our starting rotation is not the problem here, it is the bullpen. Bailey is going to be a starter not a bullpen thrower.

He is a future rotation pitcher, I did say future, not present. Bailey will not be the savior of this team this year, or probably not next year.
