Interesting stat: 2005 vs. 2006 Reds

Which offense would you guess is more potent: 2005 or 2006 Cincinnati Reds???

If you said both, you'd be right.

    2006: 89 games, 448 runs = 5.03 RPG (.263 BA, .342 OBP, .451 SLG, 1.46 HR/game for those who are interested)

    2005: 163 games (suspended game???), 820 runs = 5.03 RPG (.261 BA, .339 OBP, .446 SLG, 1.36 HR/game)
When all is said and done more is said than done.

    Pitching, pitching, pitching.

    And veteran scrappiness.

Reds team ERA (Total Runs Allowed / Game) & Winning %

    2005: 5.15 (5.45), .450
    2006: 4.78 (5.20), .506

A little pitching goes a long way.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

.42 unearned runs per game this year... I guess I hadn't actually seen that stat before right now... I would not have guessed it was that bad.

Yes, but you have to watch the trend.

    Last 10 games through July 10, 2006: 6.69 (7.00), .200.
