Another "Would you..." Thread: Encarnacion for Flash

I feel dirty posting a hypothetical trade thread, but after hearing people down here in Houston mention getting Gordon from the Phils and possibly dangling Ensberg for him, it made me think about the Reds' situation. Would you deal Encarnacion to Philly for Gordon, move Lopez to 3B and play either Olmedo at SS or move Phillips to SS and play Olmedo/Aurilia/Freel at 2B? I really would hate to see Encarnacion moved, but a top-notch closer would certainly be an asset that St. Louis and Houston currently do not have.

Encarnacion is 23. Gordon is like 50. No.

And if Houston trades Ensberg for Gordon they deserve to lose every game for the next ten years.

No because Gordon does not put this team over the top.

    No.

Make it Joe Nathan and I'd consider it.

Make it K-Rod and it's a done deal.

Why have Gordon when we already have Guardado.

As Arroyo comes back down to earth, we're going to realize that the bullpen isn't the only area that still needs help. Trading a young 3B with good range and .900 OPS potential for a good, but old and expensive closer would not be progress in the way we need it. If everything goes well with this squad, we have an outside shot at 88-90 wins.

This bullpen doesn't need 1 great arm so much as it needs about 3 good ones. We're blowing more saves in the 7th inning than we are in the 9th.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

The Reds need a lot more than Gordon to remain competetive ... and trading EE for less than that would be foolish and shortsighted.

I agree. I would not trade EE for Gordon, but if I'm Houston, I'd consider moving Ensberg for Gordon. With Pettitte and Clemens in their respective last years and Lamb available to play 3B, I think that move makes more sense for them.

Encarnacion for Tom Gordon? Hell no.

If I trade Edwin Encarnacion, I want Dontrelle Willis or someone like that coming back my way. 23 year old 3B with great range and .900+ OPS potential just don't grow on trees.
    I miss Adam Dunn.

Wheeler, Gordon, Lidge would not be a fun bullpen to face in the playoffs...
