Wow, thanks for all the tips, folks. Seeing as how I know crap about Vegas and its geographics, the information is appreciated. I look forward to the trip, if nothing else just to get out of my rural home town. Unfortunately, the bad side of it is that I'll be pretty much on my own to roust up my own entertainment.

If anyone has anything else to add, feel free. The more the merrier.

Here is a map of all the Casinos on the strip

That's not exactly to scale, but it's a solid mile between NY-NY and the Bellagio, and that you can simply forget about trying to walk to anything beyond the Luxor and the Wynn

I am also going to Vegas next month. Like others have said the Tram and shuttles will get you around the strip. You can also walk around the strip but wear something cool because it is hot this time of year. Avoid the cabs as much as you can. You can buy a multi day pass for the tram and that takes you from the MGM end of the strip all the way up to Sahara at the north end of the strip. There are shuttle buses at Harrah's that take you back and forth to Rio which is a good casino off the strip. The Hard Rock hotel also has buses taking you from the strip to their casino. About the only place you would need to take a cab to is if you want to go from the strip to downtown where the older casinos and the Freemont Street lightshow are. This is my 2nd trip to Vegas I am sure you will have a good time there is a lot to do. If you have any questions you can send me a PM. Also this website is a good site for visitors to help plan your trip.

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

    ....except venereal diseases apparently.

    Psh.

Last time I was in Vegas I stayed at the Aladdin and walked to the Sahara, and back, at least three times.

Heh - I only go out at night anyway so the desert heat wouldn't be too huge a factor. Usually when the walking begins there has been an adult beverage or two consumed. I don't knwo about you, but walking and enjoying adult beverages never go hand in hand.
