July 15 Minor League updates (Bailey pitching)

Homer is going tonight for Chattanooga.
First batter bunts the ball foul then hits a 96 MPH fastball into the outfield for a single.
Second batter takes a pitch low for ball 1. Sac bunt, 1 out with a runner on second.
Third batter steps in takes strike 1. Runner tries stealing on ball 2 and is gunned out at third by Ryan Hanigan. 2 outs, no one on and a 1-1 count. Pitch number 3 is low for ball 2. Ground ball to third, error and the runner is safe at first.
Fastball inside corner for strike 1 on the clean up hitter. Low breaking ball to even up the count at 1-1. Announcer comments Bailey has been mixing up the pitches a lot more this inning than i the past, as Ryan Hanigan throws out the second runner trying to steal in the inning.

    Chattanooga BPB

First batter grounds up the middle, Machado ranges over and gets it and throws the runner out on a great play. 1 pitch adn 1 out for Bailey in the 2nd inning.

Next batter, first pitch grounder to Votto and Bailey covers first for the 2nd out. 2 pitches, 2 outs.

Homer throws the first pitch in the dirt for ball 1. Ball 2, high and outside with something offspeed. Swing a miss on pitch 3. Tapper foul. Swing and a miss for his first strike out of the game. 8 pitch inning for Bailey.

He gives up his first runs, I'm ok with that. But, whats with him only having recorded one strikeout???

maybe he's working on his off-speed stuff and not trying to blow everyone away? I don't know, just a possiblility...

Could be, or maybe lingering effects from the cut he got at the Futures Game. If he didn't have his best stuff and managed to bear down and give up only two runs in seven innings, that's a good sign. He was giving up more runs than that in Sarasota when he was "off."

Re: July 15 Minor League updates (Bailey pitching)

I had the Chattanooga game on in the background while I was studying tonight, so I didn't hear everything going on.

The announcers made a point of saying they noticed that Bailey was mixing his pitches a lot more tonight than he has in the past. He started several hitters (at least 5 through the first 5 innings) with off-speed pitches to begin the AB, and he was dropping both his curve and his change in for strikes.

His fastball was clocking anywhere from 97-93, and the announcers were also saying he was changing speeds extremely effectively.
