Avery Named FSL Pitcher of the Week

Another Canadian doing well in the system!

According the the Florida State League office in Daytona Beach, James Avery has been named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 3rd - 9th.
Avery, a proud product of Moose Jaw, SK, Canada, tossed 13 shutout innings last week. In doing so, the 22-year old earned back-to-back wins for the first time this season. On Monday, Avery hurled six scoreless frames against the Lakeland Tigers. On Sunday, he fired a complete game seven-inning shutout agains the Ft. Myers Miracle.

Avery becomes just the fourth player in Sarasota Reds history to win the award and the first as a pitcher. He joins teammate Drew Anderson who won the award earlier this season and Junior Ruiz and two-time winner Ben Himes who both won the award in 2005.
Back to following MiLB; there's always hope for tomorrow!

What's the word on Avery? I've been watching some of his stats at High-A, and he looks promising.

What are his other pitches and what's the mph on his fastball?

It kind of makes you wonder what kind of rotation Chattanooga is going to run out to the mound over the next couple years.

He isn't a starter and has failed in Sarasota starting. Conversion time.
