Forgive me if this is already posted, but I was shocked to find that Mottola is DH'ing for the Jays tonight. He's had 40 MLB at-bats in 10 years since being sent down by the Reds in 1996.

Ah...yes...Mottola...the guy we drafted INSTEAD of Derek Jeter....
For every action there is an equal and opposite criticism.
The Jays are probably showcasing him for Jimbo.

This is going to interfere with his attempt to set the all-time Syracuse home run record.

Livan Hernandez for Chad Mottola. Mark it down.
Then Jimbo will trade Sorianno for Chris Reitsma.
Hahaha.
I wouldn't doubt it.
Hey....future Red Jeffrey Hammonds was also taken ahead of Jeter that year by the O's as well....wonder how they feel bout that one? Well probably better since Hammonds was more productive than Mottola.
The question is, would Jeter be Jeter had he been a Red?Originally Posted by max venable

Oh, and if he was a Red, would you still feel the same way about him? (alot of people don't like him/think he is overrated)
He's overrated because of his play in the postseason. Had he been a Red, he probably wouldn't have that national stage to play on.Originally Posted by StillFunkyB
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!
Maybe true, but you can't argue his individual numbers. He probably would have been a 2B for us too with Larkin here. And the bottom line here is: Is he better than Chad Matolla?Originally Posted by savafan
Yes but not better than John Oliver or Pat Watkins?
I bet he would have never seen above AA as a Red actually. They would have traded him away way before that, especially him being him. So him being a Red probably never would have happened either way. I mean, even below Larkin, we had Pokey Reese and didn't we have Bip Roberts (although I do know that he wasn't homegrown) there for awhile as well????Originally Posted by StillFunkyB
I remember an interview with Jimbo about that, and he said the plan would have been to move Jeter to CF.Originally Posted by AvesIce51
