    Rodriguez sent down by Astros

    Interesting move by Houston.

HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros have demoted left-handed starter Wandy Rodriguez, who led the team in wins.

Rodriguez, 9-6 with a 5.22 ERA in 19 starts, was sent to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, and Matt Albers was called up from Double-A Corpus Christi.

Albers was 10-2 with a 2.17 ERA in 19 starts for Corpus Christi.

    No kidding.

    9-6 with a 5.22 ERA.

You'd think Jimmy Hays would have gone with something a little less conspicuous when he changed his name.

Not really surprising. Wandy had been getting hit hard consistently and had been taken out of the rotation over a week ago.

1.53 WHIP and .866 OPSA... how was he 9-6!?!?!?!?

By the way, if Buchholz could figure out how to keep the ball in the yard, he'd have some decent numbers. 1.17 WHIP

Reminds me of Jeriome Robertson there a few years ago.

The more interesting thing is that they brought up Matt Albers, one of their stud pitching prospects, straight from Double-A. Jason Hirsh has been ready for a while, it seems, at Triple-A, but he did experience some soreness during his last start. Albers allegedly is going to pitch in the back end of their bullpen, and a space on the 25 and 40 man rosters must be cleared before Saturday's game, when Brandon Backe returns from the 60 day DL. That means another pitcher must go, but there is no real clear-cut favorite. Seems Nieve would be the odd man out, though he's pitched pretty darn well. A trade would also clear out a space, and Lidge has been their most inconsistent reliever and has become a lightning rod for the fans. Lidge to Baltimore? A trade would be the logical explanation, so it'll probably just be a routine promotion/demotion.
