I'd say he reminds me of any former Reds pitcher that is currently in a nursing home or taking a dirt nap.

Jimmy Haynes was WAY better than Joe Mays. Honestly, I can't remember a pitcher for the reds this easy to hit, but Dave Williams is pretty close.

Hey now...Roger Nelson was a good pitcher when healthy; just not healthy very often. A family friend owned a restaurant in the '70's and Roger was one of several Reds who was a frequent patron....very nice man. My vote has to go for Jimmy Anderson so long as you subtract 35-40 pounds. Same stuff, same velocity, same results.
You beat me to it...Frank Viola was my thought exactly. Now Ill go with Jay Tibbs.Originally Posted by redsupport

I can't think of another Reds pitchers as bad as Mays. Here's what's so amazing about Joe Mays: He made me forget about Dave Williams. That takes some serious lack of talent. Dave Williams is abysmal but looks like Steve Carlton compared to Mays. It's absolutely amazing that we're in 1st in the wild card having had to deal with Williams, Mays, and White....shall I keep going? Hammond, Yan, and Burns. Good night, we've had some awful pitchers this year. At least our good ones are pretty darn good.

who's the guy that used to throw batting practice to the 1975-6 Reds? Because Joe Mays reminds me of that guy a lot

How could anyone forget Jeff Austin?
