i'd take germano over bailey, if you think germano is too young then bailey is a baby.

May be I said that wrong. I don't think Bailey should be up, I just wonder is there anyone else who could help.

I would take Germano or Dumatrait before I would think about Bailey. Both of whom have to be better than Mays.

Not to sound at all condescending -- but with this team as badly in need of pitching help as it has been recently (to the point where it sent two valuable trade commodities to DC), don't you think if there was any legitimate shot of a guy like Michalak contributing that he would've been given a shot first?

Most of the time, when you see a player 30+ (or close to 30) in AAA, there is a good reason why he isn't playing big league ball.

This is true CE, but he can't be any worse than Joe Freakin Mays.

They won't need a 5th starter till next weekend in Milwaukee. I imagine they'll bring up a reliever first (I expect a DFA of Mays any minute), probably Burns, since he's on the 40-man, and then exchange him for a starter, either Dumatrait or Germano, next weekend. That is, if they haven't traded for a starter before then. I don't see them going off the 40-man for someone in-house, including Homer.

I think Gosling is on deck. He's the one they brought up for a day or two last time and he's a Wayne Krispy guy.

I'm willing to bet he could be.
All models are wrong. Some of them are useful.

Good call -- would they bullpen him for a few days then throw him out there next weekend against Milwaukee?

My guess is that WK is working hard on a trade for a 5th starter.

People say this a lot ... and they are usually wrong.

I remember in May when people wanted to replace Dave Williams as the 5th starter and claimed the Reds couldn't get any worse at that spot. Well, the Reds replaced Williams with Joe Mays, and they got worse at that spot. Just because a minor leaguer hasn't had the chance to fail yet doesn't mean he won't do so in spectacular fashion when given the opportunity.

I would much rather see Wayne go out and fetch a mediocre veteran who can at least stop the bleeding. I'm not talking about anything spectacular, just a guy who can keep the team in the game for six innings more often than not. Guys like ex-Reds Corey Lidle or Elmer Dessens would fit the bill nicely.

Well Phil Dumatrait is on schedule to pitch today, so he is right in line with the #5 rotation spot if they do choose to bring someone up. He isnt a young gun by any chance, he is either 25 and about to turn 26 or he is 26. He does have a good arm though, but can get in a little bit of trouble with his walks sometimes. I would say he has better stuff than Germano, who is a little more of a finesse pitcher. Both are probably better options than Joe Mays though.
