    2007 Clean Up

The Reds should be in the wild card race until the end (my bet is that they will at least be the wild card team) but looking forward to 2007 the Reds need to bolster their lineup with a cleanup hitter. I know everyone likes to talk about pitching but they need someone in the middle of the lineup to drive in runs. They need to make a run at a free agent outfielder; along the lines of Carlos Lee, Torii Hunter, Jermaine Dye, etc. Any other free agent RBI guys that would be worthwhile?

I agree, the Reds will need offense next year.

    Re: 2007 Clean Up

If EE gets to bat everyday and Junior can at least return to .270/.350/.525ish levels, we'll be fine

    RF Deno/Freel
    SS Phillips
    LF Dunn
    CF Junior
    3B EE
    1B Hatteberg/Votto
    2B Aurilia/Olmedo/FA
    C LaRue/Ross

That lineup won't score 850 runs, but 800 is still within reach.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

The club could use another big bat during the offseason. I am not so sure that they move Phillips to SS. They may go after an everyday SS via trade or free agency. I am also not sure that they shouldn't go for a power hitting RF. I still think that their biggest focus needs to be on pitching, pitching, and more pitching.

I think Denorfia will step it up, and take a way alot of slack. Same for Edwin. I think we will be fine offensively

An Outfield of Lee and Dunn flanking Griffey.

    Yikes.

Improving the CF defense should be high on the list as well.

I fear that unless someone has a time machine, that won't happen.

Move Denorfia to center and Griffey to RF improves the defense. Maybe Griffey, Sr. can get to Junior's head and realize he isn't the same defensive player as he was 10 years ago.

Need to sign a bonafide third starter, then worry about another bat.But with Krivsky's moves he's made the Reds are in a position to afford a good player or two.Plus he has made other players notice this team and how ''good pitching ''will work at GABP,thus FA's may want to sign here in the future. Now if Narron could get his head out of his you know what and start Edwin full time.

I don't have a problem with that move at all. If the Reds don't think Deno is the answer in CF, they should go out and acquire a legit CF with range this winter.

There's also the shortstop issue to deal with.

If we sign Lee then all the "fans" will start complaining that Freel isn't getting enough time and we will be back to the same spot we were with Kearns. Now a power hitting shortstop could solve a lot of problems.

I think the Reds are waiting for Griffey to stop thinking that Griffey is the answer in CF. Until that happens, there's no need to have a Plan B.
