Dayton, OH – RHP Derrik Lutz, the Cincinnati Reds 19th round selection in the 2006 First Year Player Draft has been promoted from the GCL Reds to the Dayton Dragons and will join the team in time for the Dragons Wednesday night game against the Lansing Lugnuts at Fifth Third Field. Lutz is somewhat familiar to his new stadium, as the right hander was the opening game starter for GeorgeWashingtonUniversity in the 2005 Atlantic 10 Tournament held at Fifth Third Field. Before heading to Dayton, Lutz appeared in two games for the GCL Reds posting a 1-0 record with a 1.59 ERA. In 5.2 innings for the GCL Reds, Lutz struck out five and held opposing hitters to a .159 batting average. As a junior for the Colonials, Lutz posted a record of 6-4 with a team-leading 1.54 ERA and one save. His six wins tied for the team lead to go along with 89 strikeouts in a team-high 99.2 innings pitched. Lutz also held opponents to just a .181 batting average, which led the A-10, while his earned run average ranked sixth-best nationally. He was also a three time first team All A-10 selection.

To make room for Lutz on the Dragons active roster, RHP Logan Ondrusek was placed on the disabled list retroactive to July 25th with a left shin contusion. Ondrusek was hit in the left leg by a Mike Hernandez line drive during his last outing on July 22nd at West Michigan and left the game after pitching 1.1 innings. Ondrusek, 13th round selection of the Reds in the 2005 First Year Player Draft, is 3-4 for the Dragons in 2006, with a 4.82 ERA in 17 relief appearances

Good to see a 19th round draft pick impress. We need some suprises from the draft. Also very nice to see it is a pitcher.
