Hey now! I take great pride in being a shut-in!

I don't play computer games as a way to interact with other people- I play them to not have to interact with other people.

This all makes me think of Triumph the insult comic dog standing outside the theater the night one of the Star Wars movies opened.

That was a great moment in TV history.

see. now all you "monday morning" RPGers are weighing in. What do you guys know about anything. You never even played the game man. Sure you can tell us the number of hit points a halfling fighter starts with, but have you ever stared into the eyes of an angry minotaur? I thought so.

    Jeez.

Wow. So you're like the Tracy Jones of the RPG world.

I dont play. As much as I was into D&D growing up, as I got older I kind of lost interest.

But my point was that Everquest is everything I wished for from a D&D standpoint growing up. So much so that to me, playing D&D with dice in the 21st century is a bit like using an abacus in a world of calculators.

Again though, to each his/her own.

I play an online game called now called Rakion. It is D&D"ish" I guess, but more of a fighting game than a strategy game. Check it out if you like...its free.

Mr. O is scrappy, I'll give him that.

Players nowdays don't respect the tradition of the Kobolds. We played the game the right way. We started at level 1 and worked our way up. Nowdays, players start at level 7 or 10, without EARNING those experience points. I just don't understand how anyone can claim to be a player without paying their dues and slaughtering 400 hapless Kobolds (encountered in nice sized groups of 3 to 6).

When I played, when you reached zero hit points, you were dead. End of story. Today's players are babied. When they reach zero hit points they are only unconscious.

Today's players whine to the DM their hit points, rely too much on magic items, and can't make the routine play to find a secret door. They just aren't scrappy like we were in the old days.

Gaining experience points for treasure. Magic-Users, not Wizards and Sorcerers. Clerics don't receive spells at 1st level. Backstab, not Sneak Attack. Nobody gets skills except Thieves (not "Rogues"). Bards were the most powerful class. And when I played, we didn't roll for additional hit points after 9th level - and we liked it!

    Re: Dungeons and Dragons

Six years and no one has wanted to cast magic missile?

I've recently become interested in the game again, and I was wondering if there was anyone out there who still played? This thread was last updated before 4th edition came out. I think it's safe to say that 4e has caused a huge amount of controversy in tabletop RPGs. I personally find it to be a breath of fresh air, but I think some old school guys find it limiting. Anyone have any thoughts?

In addition, I have been looking into some of the rules for what Wizards is calling D&D Next. So far, I really like what I'm seeing. It's precise and simple. Has anyone else checked it out?

    Re: Dungeons and Dragons

I haven't played since the 1980's, but would consider giving it another go if there were a good group of adults nearby.

I still have about 200 of the 1st Edition and 2nd Edition hardcover rulebooks, several hundred modules and several hundred Dragon Magazines. Don't ask why. Anyone want to buy them from me?

The first time I played was with 2nd. I was very young. It really took hold of me around about when 3rd came out. I don't remember anything mechanically about anything before 3rd.
