Atlanta Braves designated pitcher Jorge Sosa for assignment.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/transactions
Atlanta Braves Placed third baseman Chipper Jones on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique; transferred outfielder Brian Jordan to the 60-day disabled list; designated pitcher Jorge Sosa for assignment.

I am wondering could the Reds get Jorge Sosa fairly cheap. The Reds have Wise on DFA. Would a Wise for Sosa trade work or at least be the basis for a multi player trade?

No way Wise alone would get Sosa.

Redsfan40 what do you think the Reds would need to offer for Sosa?

I don't think he would cost too much considering how bad he's been. I think losing Mazzone has a lot to do with him reverting to his Tampa Bay days.

I have no clue. That's a question better suited for the likes of Krusty.

Sosa would probably be a good low risk move. He's a hard throwing righty, and if he could figure it out, would be a nice option at the back end of somebody's bullpen. I don't think he'll ever be an effective starter on a consistent basis, but I do think he could be a power arm out of the pen

I'm sure he'd come cheap but why would we want him? He was miserable as a starter and nearly as bad as a reliever. I know he's got a great arm but I wouldn't trust him in anything more than a mop up role.

Well I think he'd be more of a project than a guy that would step in right away this year and help us. At the very least we could stick him in AAA and call him up in September. The guy did have some good moments with Atlanta, so maybe our guys could work with him. I don't know if we could get him turned around quick enough to help us out this year, but maybe down the road.

He should come pretty cheap and he certainly is worth a shot as either a starter or reliever. If his arm is sound he throws hard and has decent breaking stuff so I believe he is definately deserving of a look.

Which is why I would stay away from him.

Sosa to St. Louis for a minor league pitcher (Rich Scalamandre) per ESPN bottom line.
