What you won't read about the Bats tonight

During the 6-1 loss, Jake Robbins came on in the 6th with 2 on, 2 out to get out of the inning, then came on in the 7th and struck out the side. Got a strikeout and a fly ball out in the 8th before being replaced by Chad Bentz. 22 pitches, 18 of them strikes in 2 innings, ERA at 3.20. Firing on all cylinders, it was a very good night for Jake.

No, he was on a 7 day DL in May and released for about 5 days before resigning, but he's been a steady 5th-8th inning pitcher, losing the closing duties to Scott Chaisson. At the time he was released, he'd given up 3 runs in 21 appearances. He can go 5-10 outings before giving up a run. He had one bad outing, giving up 4 runs, but it was his first appearance after being released and resigned. Other than that, he's been the one to turn to when the starter gets in a jam. He's inherited 21 runners and allowed about a third to score. I suppose at age 30 he's considered a AAAA player, but he's never really had a chance to see what he could do at the major league level (unlike Burns). Hopefully, he'll at least get a chance in September. Michalik and Chaisson should be looked at as well, but all 3 require a 40 man roster move.
