    Mets Lock up Reyes

    Mets have signed Jose Reyes to a four year deal $23.25 million deal. Also includes a team option for 2011 worth $11 million.

    Don't think he is a guy I would pay 11M for on the backend. But in total, it is a nice deal for both sides.

    They did get him relatively cheap, in my opinion, because he's only getting better.

    That's the beauty of the option. Just in my head it looks like he's going to be making an average of $3.5M for the next 3 years. If he stinks, the Mets don't have to exercise his option and they are only out $12.25M over 3 years. If he's as good as he is supposed to, they will be getting him cheap for that last year.

    FWIW, the local radio talk shows were killing Reyes' agent for signing the deal. Called it a flat-out steal for the Mets.

    Well when would Reyes be eligible for arbitration? I think he may have made the right choice, overall I think he would be making more money with this contract by the time its up than he would if he didnt sign it. And if he keeps on his current pace, no way the Mets dont take that last year option.

    They said he gave up two years of arbitration and his first couple years of free agency.

    Boy, there's a good kid there. He reminds me so much of those speedy Latinos we used to watch come up through the ranks during the late 70s.
