The Padres are literally giving him away. They are willing to pay his salary (partially covered by insurance). He's a decent LH bat.... Not incredibly old at 35. You gotta think his bad numbers the past few years are at least partially because of his injury. Looking at his recent road stats though over a full year he would project to about a .800-.900 OPS and 15-20
HR. Based on his road stats from a few years ago though he looks capable of 35+ HR. I mean not a complete savior by any means but not a bad option to have in the mix for peanuts (I am guessing they'd take a Miguel Perez type prospect as the centerpiece of a deal.... Pelland should be more than enough). Heck, LaRue even would be a possibility as Piazza is probably leaving... they might do that if they didn't pay any of Klesko's contract.
