Re: BP - flash and substance

I enjoy watching BP play. H's exciting, especially on defense. When I watch him, my only concern is that he seems to be wound very tight. Baseball is a game of failure and sometimes great athletes like Phillips who are used to being head and shoulders above the competition most of their lives in most sports have a hard time coping with failing so often.

He seems to get so emotionally invested into each and every pitch of every AB at times. That's tough to sustain over a long seson or seasons. I don't worry about his physical abilities, but I question whether he's got the mental makeup to survive the most difficult sport out there. I'm not saying he doesn't have it, but if he does wind up busting as a major leaguer over the long run, I believe his head will be the culprit. Baseball is hard. VERY hard.
