SHEBOYGAN, Wis. The world's best competitive eater has chomped his way to another win.

Japan's Takeru Kobayashi (tah-kah-roo koh-bee-yah-shee) has consumed a record 58 bratwursts, without buns, at the Johnsonville World Bratwurst Eating Championship in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. That beat the record of 34 and a-half set last year by Virginia's Sonya Thomas.

Kobayashi earned eight-thousand dollars.

The 160-pound Kobayashi is a seasoned veteran at 27. But in the Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest in New York on July Fourth, he narrowly beat 22-year-old Joey Chestnut of San Jose, California.

Kobayashi says, "Brats are a little bit harder to eat." He explains that "with hot dogs, it's more volume. You're actually dipping the buns in water."

Chestnut finished a distant second with 45 brats. He says he "wasn't able to prepare for this contest like the Fourth of July."

Yeah, I knew they were pronounced differently, but you can read it either way.

Actually, brat is a heteronym, I guess, because the words are pronounced differently but spelled the same. For some reason I thought homonyms or homophones included words that were spelled the same but pronounced differently, but they only include words that are pronounced the same.
