Why did Houston want to trade Oswalt???

This article, simply posted to show that Oswalt has hard feelings about the rumored trade, doesn't offer much new. But is there any reason you all can imagine why Houston put Roy on the block...granted Tejada is a great bat, but still.....Oswalt is the only ace on the Stros who isn't up there in years...why'd they want to offer him up??? Just looking for a reasonable explanation.

Re: Why did Houston want to trade Oswalt???

Oswalt is eligible for FA after 2007 and word is that he wants to test the waters. Clemens likely won't be back, so if they could leverage Oswalt in to a bat that would put them in the playoffs this year, they had to explore the option.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I don't agree with it either, but if they didn't think they could resign Oswalt, it saves a lot of face to trade him for a name player that will be around for awhile.

Personally, I think the O's were fools for turning down that rumored deal (which included Esnberg and Everett in one rumor).

He can come to Cincinnati. That way we never play him.

I think Oswalt is wearing out and is going to be a dog free agent contract for someone. I sure hope it is not us.
